Extra, Extra sometimes you dodge a bullet
Last week I talked about the importance of backing up your data. In Warning ya GOTTA do backup And I still say that is sound advice as if you do not want to lose it then back it up.
I was lucky that my hard drive was mechanically broken and the recovery guy could fix it enough to retrieve all my data and instead of $1000.00 is was $100.00 as all he did was upload it to our backup drive. But I still lost all my current outlook files and business templates so though I did not get off Scott free! We did still dodge a bullet on so many pictures and word documents that were not replaceable.
And besides losing 5 months of email, work and important templates I could have avoided the headache of waiting to see if my data was even recoverable, for just ninety bucks. So can you. There are several ways to save your files there are online options there are huge desk top backup drives and there are smaller units like we just bought at Costco for 90.00, for this computer which is a Seagate. It Velcro’s to the back and can be setup to backup your data automatically and as often as you like.
You can even do as I used to do which was backup on CDs, but if you are like me you would put it off too long and then what if something happens?
So what do I want you to take away from is article? I want to drive home how important it is that you put in place some form of backup system for your peace of mind and so you are not playing catch up in your business like I will be for months as well as having to configure a new hard drive and customize my computer so I can work effortlessly again.
So I will share with you a few of the most loved online backups sites I found in my research during this ordeal.
Mozy is rated as an exceptional site, reliable, and easy to
restore from.
It is a set it and forget it solution to your backup needs. Mozy, is
easy to install just click on their link go to the site create your account and
then download the software, specify the files you wish to backup, and then set
it to automatically back up for the time, day, date you set and you are ready
to go!
And it gets better- you can get a FREE version of Mozy. With MozyHome you get up to 2 GB of storage FREE!
MozyHome‘s pricing is starts out at $5.99 a month for 50 GB for one computer and $9.99 a month for 125 GB of storage for up to three computers. Discounts are also available for prepayments for one or two years of service.
You can add additional computers and get 20 GB of space for an extra $2 per month per machine.
With Carbonite you just download and configure their software and the backup is handled automatically. Carbonite’s online backup plans have a lot of fans and they have a positive record for service with most people who review this company. There were a few exceptions and all claimed the only issue was bandwidth throttling during the initial uploading process.
The Carbonite Home online backup service costs $59.99 a year and allows for an unlimited amount of data backup. There are two other options available as well, HomePlus and HomePremier, that run $99.99 per year and $149.99 per year. Both offer a few additional features over the basic service.
The Backblaze is straightforward with its pricing and software. there are no file size limits. The software interface is as simple and the Backblaze is $5 month for one year per computer and allows an unlimited amount of storage. And is just $3.96 for a two year plan.
Cyphertite is a smaller online backup company but it was highly rated by more than one review as an easy-to-use backup provider with idiot proof software, as well as possibly the highest rated security of any online backup services
One blogger said “While a few online backup services allow the option to create your own crypto passphrase which keeps your data locked away from anyone. Cyphertite allows you to keep an unlimited amount of data backed up for $10.00 a month. And they offer a business plan with a fee per gigabyte use.
Should you wish to consider that option those four companies seemed to be ranked the most positive for use, cost and storage space.
As far as machines as I said I am really liking the Seagate we got after my hard drive crashed but we also have a large free standing backup in the office for those that want a separate unit- those are high end, but can hold a lot of data from several machines.
But the important thing is for you to get into a regular routine for backing up your files and finding a vehicle that works for you to do that
