I am going to blog about the 5 top 5 network marketing companies over the next five weeks.
I know many of you have your own favorites and are involved in different home businesses. Even some of you will find yours on this list. But since I got asked where ViSalus is ranked it being so new to the field, I wanted to check that out and do a little comparison of the current movers and shakers, in our industry. So, here are the Top 5 Network Marketing Companies, is yours gonna be one of them?
I was surprised to find is that
# 1. is Avon, though all the years in the game alone should grant this old girl a place on this list, but she came up on top.
Avon is the most recognizable and the most loved by my research, as we all know someone who has sold it, or even tried it ourselves.
Sales: $10.3 billion
Markets: beauty and personal care products, jewelry and apparel
Distributors: 6.2 million
Comp plan: Single and multi-level
Founder David McConnell didn’t originally intend to create a beauty company. In 1886 at 28 when he was still a door to door book salesman in New York, he founded The California Perfume Company after realizing his female customers were far more interested in the free perfume samples he gave to get them to look at the books, than in the books.
David McConnell said when he was considering founding his company, he had also noticed that many of his female customers were alone at home all day while their husbands went to work. So he purposely recruited women. David McConnell believed they had a natural ability to network with and market to other women.
Women have sold Avon for 34 years before they had the right to vote.
In 1939 the company was renamed after the river, Avon, in honor of David McConnell’s favorite playwright William Shakespeare who’s hometown was Strafford in the English Midlands. And the Avon river that ran through that town.
Like we do with our ViSalus company, Avon supports Breast Cancer. Avon does so with the yearly Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Philanthropic causes do a lot for company PR and also giving back to the community is just a good way for any business to be, no wonder Avon is still going strong some 125 years after it started.
I was going to list pros and cons of my research in my own words, but decided that two other Avons reps shared the best information on the subject.

I also found in my research something that really surprised me especially when Avon for 20 years claimed to be free of animal testing, is that some products are still tested on animals- Avon’s corporate website states it sells approximately 9,000 different products in over 100 countries and in 2011, under 0.3 per cent of these were tested on animals. But, only when required by law.
I was both saddened and disappointed to find that some products I myself have used may still first be tested on animals. This alone would preclude my making future purchases as I believed Avon was completely cruelty free not that it is trying to be.
I applaud their stepping up when others did not, I recognize Avon’s goal and honesty in stating they are not there yet. But they claimed to be cruelty free and that was jumping the gun a bit for 1000’s of animals, still being mistreated to tortured to killed for our vanity. I will purchase Avon again when they are no longer testing any product on living animals. You of course must make your purchasing and business decision choices that are right for you. I am just here to share my findings.
