The Power of WANT

This week I want to talk about the power of want. I am not talking about why you do  what you do or what you want to achieve or obtain. This is not about what you want for yourself but, for others.

The POWER comes from when YOU want others to succeed, have, or accomplish even more than yourself- like you do with family and close friends, and it will come back tenfold.

My mom taught me many years ago what goes around comes around and that a better world starts with one person, be that one person. So taking that to heart and living that mantra means you put others before yourself. And me anyway I go further and want that for my team and people I work with as well. I am more giddy when they have reached a milestone, gotten bonuses grew in rank or added new team members than when it happens to me. Do not get me wrong there will never come a time I will not be grateful for all the abundance, success and rewards that come our way for our hard work. But it is not about US and it certainly is not about me in why we do this.

And if you wish to live a life of abundance, if you wish to motivate others then be willing to help them get everything that they want.

“You can have everything in life that you want if you just give enough other people what they want.”

Zig Ziglar

So how do you do this? How do you follow mine and Zig’s advice? Well….

  1. Be a good leader. Show your team how to use company tools. Stress the importance of company calls, training yearly conferences.
  2. Lead by example. Do not just talk the talk, but walk the walk.
  3. Help when asked. Listen to your team and do not use a one size fits all approach but tailor how you help each member by their individual needs.
  4. Keep your team engaged, be accessible.
  5. Create marketing tools and team centered goals. Be open to feedback and suggestions.
  6. Reward participants, do so publicly.
  7. Counsel and offer advice to less productive teammates PRIVATELY!
  8. NEVER criticize but, ALWAYS praise!
  9. Reinforce you ARE a team, and a team looks out for one another and for them to do the same with their own teams.
  10. Teach them pay it forward.

I will give you an example of how you can bond a team to you. I do not share this to brag but, to show you the power of loyalty and imparting to your team that WE ARE a TEAM! When I was in the corporate world I received a $10,000 bonus but, I did this by extra effort put into the company that took away time from being there for my team. So I felt that it was a team bonus as much as a personal one. And I split it with my team. WHY because it was the right thing to do in my mind.

I was amazed at the reactions and disbelief by my doing so. Even upon explaining why I felt it was a team bonus and a win-win for us all. I was met with I do not know that I could be so generous, or I never saw anyone do such a thing, or yeah but, most people just do not do things like that. My response was I am not most people. (To my blog followers DON”T you be either- want an extraordinary life, be an extraordinary person).

Although my team had always been very close from our softball and pizza days out, to helping with offering up their sick and vacation time when one of our own was seriously ill and would have lost his job by missing so much work, to always showing up ready to work, not for the company but for each other. So I had a good bunch of people. But following the bonus I had a great bunch of people who felt important, and felt appreciated. I did not do it for that reason, but a lot of people became better people by that small act, including myself.

And it is no different in Network Marketing. When a team member may get leads that filled out her capture page, but did not join and she hates follow up with those types that I do the follow up and the ones that decide to join do so under her, as it was not about getting another person on my team, but hers. WHY? It is the right thing to do an I WANT her to succeed. I want her to feel motivated by the fact that I care that she is team building I care that she is getting what she needs and wants and I do so more earnestly than I will ever want that for myself. You who are on my teams know that about how our teams work, and also that I have told you about the POWER of want.

So I wanted to share it here as well as like last week’s blog and the power of having passion for what you do, so is it just as paramount to once you have found your passion that you help those that share it with you to reach their goals and get what they want, if you do that as Zig Zigglar said you will get everything you want. And you will find that doors will be thrown open wide- you will live in abundance by the joy that occurs when you give to others. Fate will smile on you and even more than helping your team to get what they want, or it leading to what you want, is you will inspire and teach others to pay it forward then you do not just change your team’s mindset or your own, but the entire world one person at a time. I do not know about your mom, but mine was always right about that.
