So what in the world is Passion?!
I made a list on last week’s blog that gave 10 things you need to consider and follow when deciding to start your own business.
I thought it was a pretty concise self explanatory list. But more then one of you asked the same type of question, so that became the topic of my blog today So what in the world is Passion?! And what has it got to do with businesses?
Mary said “I know what passion means I am not really asking what is passion, but more how can you get passionate about Network marketing? I mean it is hard work- please explain”.
Jeff asked “how can I make myself passionate about any type of work?”
Those are just a couple of the questions and comments I got.
Passion: The first definition in the dictionary says…
pas·sio:n
noun
1. any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love or hate.
Hummm… that would mean when you hate
a job or LOVE it you feel passion! I am sure you can all relate to hating a
job, boss in the past or maybe even now. But you buck it up for the paycheck
and because you have responsibilities to those you love (your number 1 passion,
family.) ![]()
So if you work hard or not if you love what you are doing then you are passionate about it.
As far as getting passionate about Network Marketing or anything. You can’t be made to, you just have to be. No one tells you to love classical music, politics, your kids you just do, if you experience a powerful emotional connection.
Some things like sports or music how Government is ran may be a learned passion. But you had to have the desire the interest the spark to want to watch, listen or learn in the first place. That is the seed that decides what your passions are. What I was stating is when you do what you love when you love what your company provides or how it helps or serves others- YOU then have a passion for what you do and when that occurs you are more driven to succeed more invested in the message, more willing to push yourself a little harder because you believe in what you are doing.
Todd said: Sandy I think I show a lot of passion for my company, but my team just will not do the same. Most of the them never do anything. They were happy to join me, but then just sit. What can be done about that?
Sadly to answer Todd’s question NOTHING!
You cannot even if you are busting with passion for what you do! Make anyone feel the same. You can choose if you want to work with someone, you can lead by example, and hope. But if your team is not doing anything then no matter why they joined you, what you do is NOT their passion!
So if it were my team I would keep building and be there for the entire team offering help if asked. Then help those that did ask and letting the lay abouts lay there. I would not worry about what they did. I would be too busy trying to interest people who were like minded as myself and felt as strongly as I did to join me rather than having people join me because they just liked me or wanted to help me out etc.. But had no intention of doing more than just that.
And we all have those types on our teams no matter how many people that join you only a few will be super stars, and most will not work as hard as you and some not at all. That is just the nature of this industry.
Also many Marketers are guilty of the carrot being too easy, if you promise no need to build a down line no sponsoring required get paid for just joining. WELL who do you think joins? Do as I do interview perspective teammates, make sure they are as vested in success as you are. Ask them what they intend to do once they join? Ask them if they already have a team in mind (as many of us bring teams with us when we join a new venture) ask them what they bring to your team. Ask them why they want to join your team.
As even in the same Network marketing company all of us build and run our teams in different ways, so some teams are better fits than others even if you have a go getter who is looking at joining. That is the best way to at least feel out someone who shows interest in what you do. Not a given they will follow through or be as good as they sounded but, far better than chasing or letting just anyone on your team.
For those of you who do not have the luxury of so many request or a big pool of interest, then comes back to lead by example want to set a fire under your team, set a fire under yourself! NOTHING like seeing a little success to make others want to copy it.
I hope this post makes it a little more clear on how having passion will help you in the business you choose to join or build and also how that same passion while it cannot be forced it can be contagious.
